THE FEAST IN PALTVUORI There were lots on folks in our house when we arrived from the church. Champagne was served, and we toasted for love and ourselves.
Our friends had again arranged many kinds of program. Mika and Marianne gave us some advice in estonian. ( estonian is close to finnish, though not the same, results to wild fun, impossible to translate...) Outi read poetry, Ilona sang to us, Martta and Maija sang, Stefan and Hannu gave speeches. We were praised in such high words, that it started to terrify a bit, although it felt some good too. From all this we could reach faith and strength in our lives. Friendship is a mighty power, carrying us over the difficulties, and multiplying our joy.

We really are no dancers, but we did a few swings. It was not actually a nuptial walz, we just listened to the "Nuptial walz of Akseli and Elina" ( very finnish) The others made us company, as far as they could fit on the floor.
The hall is a room, we usually have rather cool. This time the crowd raised the temperature so, that in the end it started to too warm, in spite of the opened front doors. The folks got along, and had fun.

Some traditional amusements:
  • The fiance and the bride are taken elsewhere and blindfolded. The audience is told, that they are about to hear, what the couple is going to say to each other in there wedding night. Then the couple is brought in, still blindholded and are told to fold a sheet. A quite funny conversation is to follow;
    ( us):
    - No problem, we have done this often enough.
    - Did you catch up the end?
    - How long is this anyway?
    - It's supposed to hang down...
    - Now we should make a slight stretch...

    And we wondered the laughs, although we thought we did allright...

  • The fiance is taken away and blindfolded. A line ov maids is arranged in the banqueting hall, the bride is one of them. We also had Stefan... The fiance is brought in, and he has to recognise his bride. I could pick out the hairbuttocs, and finally found my own too!

  • The bride is taken away and blindfolded. A line of heroes is set up, and they expose their other leg. The bride is brought in, an she has to recognise her own by feeling. Kaija found me at once, even before feeling about all of the legs!

    In the twilight of the night we were entertained by the sentimental brilliant duo Antti Virtanen / Yrjö Halme. They accompanied us with many community singings, and played a few wished songs.
    The beautiful winter day of friday had by saturday changed to a depressed rain. However the atmosphere was raised up to the roof by our friends. The lousy weather was not noticed until saturday had changed over to sunday and the last of our guests were slipping across the icy yard towards their cars. It was time to say goodbye to folks at home, and so my wife and me took our way towards Hotel Hamburger Börs in Turku to have our wedding night -also unforgettable!
